Meta Expands AI Disclosure Labels for Facebook and Instagram Ads

July 11, 2026

Meta is introducing updated disclosure labels for advertisements containing AI-generated or significantly AI-edited visuals. The labels will appear inside the “About this ad” section, accessible through the three-dot menu on promoted Facebook and Instagram posts.

The platform may automatically apply an AI information label when advertisers use Meta features such as image generation, background generation, or animation tools. Promotions created with third-party platforms, including Photoshop and Open-Ai, may also receive labels when Meta detects compatible metadata through standards such as C2PA.

For digital marketers, the update makes artificial intelligence use more visible as consumers increasingly question the authenticity of online content. Brands using generative AI will need to focus on producing accurate, responsible and trustworthy advertising rather than attempting to hide how the creative was made.

The change could strengthen consumer confidence while making deceptive or heavily manipulated advertisements easier to identify. AI transparency is quickly becoming an essential part of advertising strategy, not merely a compliance requirement.
