Google’s New YouTube Ad Metrics Could Change Brand Campaign Tracking

June 30, 2026

A quiet update inside Google Ads could make YouTube brand campaigns easier to measure and harder to judge by views alone. Google is adding new YouTube campaign measurement features for Video Reach and Video View campaigns, giving advertisers a clearer look at how video ads influence attention, search behavior, and brand interest.

One of the biggest changes is tied to YouTube Shorts. Video View Campaigns that are opted into Shorts will now automatically include Shorts Ad Actions in budget optimization and reporting columns. This means advertisers can better understand how people interact with Shorts ads after watching, not just whether the ad was served.

The update also gives more weight to active engagement. When users watch a Shorts ad for more than 10 seconds and also like it, Google says those actions are linked with stronger brand consideration and favorability. For brands investing in short-form video, this adds a more useful layer to campaign performance.

Google has also made Attributed Branded Searches available globally as a Google Ads reporting metric. This feature tracks searches that happen after someone sees or views an ad, helping advertisers connect brand exposure with real search intent.

For marketers, the update shows how YouTube is moving closer to performance-style accountability. Instead of treating brand campaigns as awareness-only activity, advertisers can now study how video attention turns into curiosity, search demand, and possible future sales.
